MSM supplies a supplemental source of methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), an organic sulfur-containing compound. Sulfur is a necessary element for the production of collagen, the primary constituent of cartilage and connective tissue.* It is also important in the formation of body proteins, via the formation of disulfide bonds, which serve in holding tissues together.* Furthermore, intracellular sulfhydryl groups are necessary for the catalytic function of numerous enzymes.* As a source of sulfur, MSM plays an important role in carbohydrate metabolism and in the maintenance of healthy hair, skin and nails.* It has also been shown to have antioxidant properties.* Since dietary consumption of sulfur-containing compounds, such as methionine and cysteine is typically inadequate, MSM may serve as an excellent supplemental source of sulfur. Each capsule of supplies 830 mg of MSM.
